ABOUT ME AND MY RATTERY:
My rattery is located in Massachusetts and I have been breeding rats for about ten years now. I have just recently in the past 5 years really started breeding mainly hairless rats. I have always loved everything hairless, from dogs to cats, from cats to rats! I got my first hairless female about 5 years ago in as a rescue situation. She was an amazing creature! I had bred regular rats prior, but none could add up to how fun and loving this little gal was! Even though she had been in a really bad, neglectful environment, she always went out of her way to show you she loved you, either by grooming your hair, or giving you kisses. Well she started the whole hairless rat thing! I never bred her, but after having her, I ordered two female rats from a rattery in Ohio, and then a male from someone in Rhode Island. I had already had my hair rats so after doing some research and a couple trial and errors, I realized that you needed hair rats to help mother the babies, because not all hairlesses lactate well, actaully most dont. Since then I have added to my breeding stock of hairlesses, and now have some great lines going. I have tried my best to weed out females that do not lactate well, and have weeded out almost all health problems in my rats. along with genetic problems. All my rats are VERY well taken care of. They are in BIG cages, I DO NOT use wood shavings of any kind, they are all handled daily and socialized, go to the vet, and are all given the requirements needed. My rats are part of my family, and will all be treated that way.
HOW AND WHAT I BREED:
Ok ALL my male rats are hairless. I currently have male dumbos with the rex gene, regular male dumbo's, bareback regulars, and just regular hairlesses of different colors. My hairless females consist of mainly regular hairlesses of different color varietions, with a few dumbos. I ALSO have hairless gene females with hair bred to the hairless males, those are used as sarrogates and also some are taken for new genes, those produce half hairless half hairless carriers, along with some regular hair females that produce hair gene babies usually none of the babies come out hairless but carry the hairless gene, those are used to start new lines. All my females and males are specifically bred. I DO NOT just throw a male in with any female, they are all hand picked on what I do with them. I keep track of all my rats, whos mom of who, who fathered who, which ones are related, which ones are new genes etc.
